Curry and Reed

Curry and Reed at my
        sister's wedding
Curry and Reed at my sister's wedding in the State of Washington, 2000.  She didn't want to bring her guitar on the airplane.  We played the Supremes song "You Can't Hurry Love."

In 1999, I saw Becky Reed at a party at Bud Pettit's house (if you've read the pages for the Penetrations and/or Used Parts, you'll know whom I'm writing about).

We hadn't seen or spoken to each other in years, and I promised to call her.
We got together and decided to see if we could play some music as a duo.  Our custom was to go out to dinner on Saturday night and then play some music together.

We only played three gigs, but it was a lot of fun - we didn't feel any pressure to be commercial.  We chose some great songs - a couple by K.D. Laing [Lang?], some Beatles, a Hollies number, some Buddy Holly, as well as folk songs.  She's not a bad rhythm guitar player, and she threatened to play her mandolin as well.

When I started dating BelleAnne, I guess we got the "threes-a-crowd" feeling and our little venture ended.

We recorded a few songs in my studio near Brookside, and here are a few of them:

Blue Days, Black Nights - an early Buddy Holly number
Do Your Duty - Bessie Smith
Look Through Any Window - the Hollies
Why Don't You Do Right - I don't know whose song this is, but it's cool
Heartbeat - Buddy Holly again
Since I Met You Baby - Ivory Joe Hunter
Write Me in Care of the Blues - Patsy Cline

Becky and I went out in January 2000 to a bar in Overland Park and sat in with Johnny I and the Receders.
Jim Wilson, the sax player in that group, was a member of Used Parts.
I would a few years later play with Johnny Isom, the leader and guitarist of the group, in a Stoned Circus reunion project.
